Junior Scientific Programmer/Data Scientist

The IHI Data Scientist Specialist (IHIDSS) team, led by Dr. Ma, is seeking a Junior Scientific Programmer/Data Scientist to help solve real-world challenges in biological and health sciences. Dive into research areas such as mental health, aging, brain science, cancer, and health equity, while contributing to cutting-edge algorithm development.


???? What You'll Do:

???? Conduct Analytical Experiments (80%)

  • Build and transform complex datasets from various data sources for research.
  • Design and maintain data processing pipelines ensuring data integrity and security.
  • Execute computational experiments to benchmark machine learning algorithms using biomedical and healthcare data.

???? Algorithm Development (10%)

  • Implement and optimize ML, bioinformatics, and statistical algorithms.
  • Develop and document innovative software solutions and experiment setups.

???? Publications & Presentations (10%)

  • Craft technical reports and co-author research publications.
  • Present findings to researchers, scientists, and clinicians.

? What We’re Looking For:

Required Skills:

  • B.A./B.S. in Computer Science, Math, Statistics, Physics, or related field plus 4+ years of relevant experience (or equivalent).
  • Proficiency in Matlab, Python, or R and experience with SQL or other databases.
  • Strong coding ability to independently develop and maintain complex software. (Provide your GitHub or code samples.)
  • Familiarity with machine learning/statistical methods and robust communication skills.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with messy, real-world data and high-performance computing.
  • Data visualization expertise and independent problem-solving in research environments.
  • Research experience and a track record of scientific publications.
