Baylor University is seeking a passionate Senior Research Scientist to advance our mission and vision at the Point-of-Need (PONI) Manufacturing Center. What You Will Do:
- Conduct cutting-edge multiscale materials modeling and simulations to propel forward projects in advanced materials and manufacturing.
- Uncover innovative materials science/physics relationships using advanced techniques such as atomistic modeling, phase-field modeling, continuum modeling, and SPH process modeling.
- Collaborate closely with a dynamic team of researchers, guiding laboratory experiments aimed at developing additive friction stir deposition processes and pioneering new fundamental scientific principles.
- Utilize your expertise to design lightweight materials with advanced functional properties, supporting the development of additive manufacturing technologies.
- Publish your research in peer-reviewed journals and contribute to advancing the scientific community.
- Lead the effort in securing external funding by developing and submitting compelling proposals.
- Perform a variety of other duties in support of Baylor’s mission, contributing to the academic and research excellence.
What We’re Looking For:
Required Experience:
- PhD in Materials Science, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or closely related field.
- 7+ years of relevant materials science and/or engineering work experience, including research during your PhD.
- Deep expertise in computational modeling, simulation, and theory in mechanical engineering, materials science, and materials physics.
- Proven track record of peer-reviewed publications in mechanical engineering or materials science/physics.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience working alongside laboratory and experimental materials scientists to inform and enhance research.
- Knowledge of machine learning and artificial intelligence techniques in materials science applications.
- Familiarity with advanced materials, metallic alloys, or microstructural engineered systems.
- Experience with advanced manufacturing technologies and equipment, especially in additive manufacturing processes.
