overall strategy in targeting, evaluating, and executing
external growth opportunities in close coordination with the VP of
Global business development and the VP of NA Finance. Supports the
assessment of growth opportunities, partners with external innovation,
commercial, and R&D teams, co-leads due diligence, and negotiates
mid-size transactions to drive business growth. This is a critical
role collaborating across functions with a high level of visibility
and significant exposure to senior management. Identify acquisition,
development, and licensing opportunities. A lead role in contributing
to and supporting global deals by seeking, evaluating, recommending,
and structuring/negotiating relevant deals to create value-accretive
opportunities. Develop a prioritized overview of targets, together
with head of global BD and head of NA Finance. Role and
Responsibilities: Strategic Development• Support and lead global BD&L
deals by seeking, evaluating, recommending, and structuring external
agreements while managing internal processes to finalize those deals.•
Keep updated on industry news and trends.• Co-lead alignment with R&D
and commercial teams regarding strategic priority targets for
partnering.• Identify BD&L opportunities as part of the broader BD&L
team. Cross-functional collaboration & BD&L process• Develop portfolio
gap analyses in close collaboration with R&D and commercial teams and
maximize through licensing. Deliver against us BD&L strategies and
plans/objectives• Source opportunities aligned with strategic priority
targets.• Participate in and co-lead due diligences, build network of
contacts, oversee evaluation of partnerships/licensing opportunities
at multiple levels• Support negotiations, structuring of transactions,
and take part in drafting of contracts (e.g. in-license deals,
out-license, JV, acquisition, divestments, etc.)• Co-lead in managing
stakeholders, present to internal leadership teams and drive internal
consensus on opportunities• Support formal governance process to seek
and obtain approval for appropriate deal opportunities and adhere to
internal BD&L review process to ensure quality and consistency of the
evaluation of all BD&L activities in accordance with process
guidelines• Present opportunities to BD Steer Co for negotiation
mandates• Build independent network within the biotech and investment
ecosystem• Manage BD&L projects, including the prioritization of
activities, and support the prioritization of BD&L projects in
accordance with strategic priorities. Carry out day to day project
management resource allocation, managing across matrixed functions,
timeline adherence, internal and external communications, leading and
working effectively in cross-functional teams. External relationship
management• Lead the planning and execution of external search
activities.• Represent BD function by actively participating in
internal events and in external events within the BD and scientific
communities (industry conferences, Partnering conferences, etc)• Build
(and maintain) network of external contacts within the Biotechnology
and finance community• Co-lead internal and external communications•
Leverage existing key contacts to generate new opportunities Deal
negotiation• Serve as an emerging global BD expert inside and outside
us• Co-Lead negotiations and contract structuring for
licensing deals and M&A deals• Lead or co-lead and take part in
drafting contracts (e.g. in-license deals, out-license, JV,
acquisition, divestments, etc.).• Ensure that all contracts and
alliances are negotiated and that partnerships can be executed
according to plan and mandate, and in compliance with all
regulations. Project Management• Independently manage and prioritize
BD&L activities in accordance with strategic priorities.• Carry out
day-to-day project management resource allocation, managing across
matrixed functions, timeline adherence, internal and external
communications, leading and working effectively in cross-functional
teams.• Additional duties as assigned by our Management•
Complete all company-based and job-related training as assigned by us within the required timeline. Qualifications:• Bachelor's degree
required. Master's degree (ie. MSc) in a Scientific discipline and/or
MBA a plus• [5]+ years' experience in on the investment side or in
pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry in BD roles of increasing
responsibility within pre-clinical and/or clinical stage business
development; experience in medical dermatology highly desired•
Requires demonstrated knowledge and understanding of pharmaceutical
development, regulatory and commercialization and business practices
required to successfully bring drugs to market, as well as financial
principles• Experience in identifying and evaluating pharmaceutical or
biotech products for potential licensing/acquisition, and
participating in negotiations• Previous experience interacting and
presenting to Senior Leadership• Rapidly embraces and applies new
ideas and approaches• Self-starter who is able to effectively lead
multiple projects and priorities simultaneously• Strong interpersonal
skills to strengthen business relationships• Ability to build mutual
trust, respect and cooperation among team members and other key
stakeholders• Ability to communicate complex information clearly,
effective creator and presenter of executive and functional
information• Strong business acumen and analytic and quantitative
